| SUMMARY |
The next morning, Jessica wakes up in bed with Jimmy's mutilated corpse. She is brought in for questioning, and breaks down sobbing when she cannot account for her whereabouts on the nights of the four murders. In a jail cell, Jessica explains to Dr. Frank that she's always known she was a bad person. However, John releases Jessica after revealing that Rohypnol was found in her blood and she could not have committed the murders. In the car, John convinces Jessica that Mike is the killer and they drive to his house. |
| ANALYSIS |
While it must be shocking to wake up spooning with a gory cadaver, it is a distinct possibility that Jessica has used up all her chances to act surprised when something like this happens to her. Fortunately for male citizens of San Francisco, however, the San Francisco Police Department is through acting surprised and finally takes Jessica into custody as a suspect. If nothing else, Jessica can be flattered that she was given four corpses' worth of the benefit of the doubt. After having a particularly hilarious meltdown in the interrogation room, Jessica appears to address the audience from her jail cell as she explains her conclusion: her parents were bad people, and she couldn't help being a bad person too. As the camera slowly tracks away from Jessica, one can almost see the closing credits waiting off-screen, eager to embark on their majestic ascent up the screen... and in a way, we appreciate that this is the most effective ending this movie could hope for. Sadly for everyone involved, including the audience, this is NOT the ending of Twisted, and after spending exactly 83 seconds in jail, Jessica is allowed to walk free yet again. John makes a good point that Jessica physically couldn't have committed the murders, thanks to Rohypnol in her bloodstream; on the other hand, this only reminds us that it's been two days since Jessica submitted her blood sample to Lisa from the lab and the results should definitely have solved the case by now. Furthermore, John's argument that Mike must be the killer is rather weak, despite being bolstered by such powerful supporting flashbacks as "Jessica hearing a hawk screech" and "Jessica's lover mooning the camera." |
