| SUMMARY |
Jessica wakes up the next morning and receives a phone call from someone who hangs up on her. Mike is gone, but Jessica notices a burning cigarette in the ashtray. Jessica visits John in his office, where he tests her ability to process a room. When she fails, Jessica confesses that she is losing her mind. John reminds her that she has a job to do. Back home, Jessica is busy getting wasted when Jimmy breaks in and tries to kill her. In the middle of being chased, Jessica passes out. |
| ANALYSIS |
If the previous chapter suggested that Jessica might have distinguished some correlation between her blackouts and the string of murders she is investigating, this chapter is twisted enough to suggest that Jessica doesn't even realize the correlation between the blackouts and her drinking. Indeed, as Jessica recovers from yet another alcohol-induced coma, the viewer cannot help anticipating some sort of revelation about her IQ that might explain Jessica's fantastic inability to retain four key premises:
Notably, Twisted breaks its previous record for the shortest amount of time after Jessica wakes up from being drunk before Jessica gets drunk again: the film cuts to John's office for exactly 53 seconds before cutting to Jessica back home and chugging red wine yet again. This is so astonishing, in fact, that we cannot think of anything further to say about it. Jimmy's sudden reappearance certainly startles Jessica, but it startles the viewer even more, as Jimmy's last scene was 30 minutes ago and we simply assumed he'd been murdered by now. Clearly, this is a testament to Jimmy's stealth as he's hunted Jessica; alternatively, it seems possible that Jimmy had an extensive subplot -- dealing with the significant character arc that must have brought him to this point -- cut out in favor of getting to the end of the film a little faster. |
