Jessica and Mike arrive at the dive bar for their investigation. The bartender instantly recognizes Jessica and admits that he thought she was a prostitute.

Later, Jessica is shown into the victim's apartment. The landlord (Veronica Cartwright) explains that he was a bad tenant, and the kind of "skanks" he brought home reminded her of Jessica. Outside, Mike makes a joke about Jessica being the prime suspect, to which she responds by cursing him and storming away.

That night, Jessica comes home to find Jimmy in her apartment. When he tries to have sex with her, she viciously beats him with her yawara, breaking his nose.

After a trying day at the office, Jessica is understandably eager to get back on the streets and do some real detective work. But despite the fact that her investigation is doubling as a tour of her favorite erotic hot spots, Jessica's mood is not improved by the bartender's comments:

Bartender: Hey, I know you, you come in here all the time. You're a cop? I don't believe it!
Jessica: Believe it.
Bartender: Well, I did think you were kinda hot for a working girl, but I couldn't figure out why else you'd be takin' off with those guys.

Clearly, Jessica's subsequent violent reaction is in frustration to the bartender's failure to realize that plenty of "working girls" are MUCH hotter than she is, not to mention the fact that the "one of those guys" in question was a male model who could have had his pick of the myriad transsexual beauties socializing in the bar that night. That, and the bartender's enthusiastic insistence that Jessica looks way more like a hooker than a police officer, which, as much as Jessica's personal style leaves to be desired, is simply not true.

Jessica's self-esteem endures yet another blow when the victim's landlord explains, "The last person I saw him with looked a lot like you. Seemed like he'd fuck any skank that came onto him." Apparently, people feel quite comfortable speaking honestly with Jessica, certainly one of the hallmarks of a good cop, although in Jessica's case it seems to result in a lot of people calling her a whore.

To be sure, however, it cannot be said that Jessica is devoid of standards, as evidenced by her brutal response to Jimmy's advances. Seeing how she delights in breaking his nose with her phallic yawara, it is apparent that Jessica has certain issues with intimacy that limit her romantic availability. Had Jimmy realized this, perhaps he might have employed an alternate dating strategy than breaking and entering her apartment and trying to rape her.
