SUMMARY

A scantily-clad Honey stars in a new music video, gyrating sensually near a male rap star. Afterwards, Honey arrives home to find a paycheck for over $9,000.

That evening, Honey prepares for a night on the town, but breaks the news to Gina that it's a business meeting and she is not invited. Gina, who has already gone to the trouble of getting ready, warns Honey that Michael's intentions may not be pure, but Honey shrugs off her friend's concern.

Later, Honey and Michael enter a raging gay club, navigating their way past a fashion show hosted by a noisy transvestite. Michael guides Honey to the V.I.P. area, where she is introduced to R&B star Ginuwine, who praises her work in the Jadakiss video.

Honey banters with Ginuwine's posse until Michael announces that she will be choreographing Ginuwine’s next video, after working on Michael's next two videos. Honey is flustered and grateful, offering Michael a hug and a toast in return.

ANALYSIS

From Jadakiss to Ginuwine, Honey flaunts its authenticity by including rap stars instantly recognizable to the viewer. In fact, although Jadakiss and Ginuwine are introduced by name, the video shoot opening this clip provides no introduction for its star, Shawn Desman , as this R&B superstar -- boasting one gold album in Canada -- surely doesn't need one.

Following in grand tradition, this music video features many attractive ladies in various degrees of undress, indicating that it is an extremely sexy video; however, Honey distinguishes herself from the crowd as the sexiest dancer of all. Front and center once again, Honey shows off a single, unimaginative body roll over and over, to the delight of everyone around her; although the rawness of Honey's talent is what makes it so exciting, it may benefit her to cultivate any actual dance moves.

As Honey is preparing for a business night on the town with Michael, the film begins touching upon the dark underbelly of her success: namely, that those closest to Honey may begrudge her accomplishments and try to take her down. In fact, Gina's first transgression may be showing up at all, since (1) Gina does not live with Honey, yet enters her bedroom unannounced; therefore (2) Gina did not bother checking in with Honey before getting totally dressed, coming over, and breaking into her apartment.

Gina is surprisingly understanding regarding Honey's prior commitment, choosing nobly to focus on her welfare and alerting Honey to the fact that human males tend to expect sexual favors in return for kindness and generosity. Here, we gain insight into Gina's personal history with men, as well as her sharp handle on current topics such as Monica Lewinsky, as Gina responds to Honey's protest that Michael is her boss with, "You say that like you never heard of Monica Lewinsky."

Nevertheless, however hilariously incisive Gina's political commentary may be, it seems that Honey's success does not sit as well with her best friend as expected; thus, Gina is compelled to plant seeds of doubt instead of wishing her best friend luck at her impending business meeting.

Papi Chulo's, the rambunctiously gay nightclub chosen by Michael Ellis and Ginuwine as an ideal location for their meeting, would seem an odd location for any rapper to come within several miles of. This intersection of the macho, distinctly homophobic world of hip-hop with the "Hey-ay!" bravado of the gays makes little sense to the viewer, until we realize the filmmakers may have known that homosexuals were the only demographic to which Honey could reasonably hope to appeal.

It is quite amazing that Honey has made such a name for herself already that Ginuwine is a personal fan of her work, considering her conspicuous lack of experience or demonstrable skill. As Honey's rise to the top has repeatedly assured us it isn't over, Ginuwine does not even entertain the idea of hiring someone more reliable to choreograph his video. Perhaps Ginuwine truly trusts in the professional expertise of Michael Ellis; on the other hand, perhaps he has never heard of Monica Lewinsky.

As soon as Honey finishes registering her shocked excitement at such a fat paycheck, she rushes back to the restaurant where Gina and friends are still waiting for Honey to pay for their dinner.
