| SUMMARY |
Honey celebrates her recent avalanche of success with a fancy dinner, accompanied by Gina and two other friends. They plan an elaborate weekend in Atlantic City to celebrate Gina's 25th birthday; Gina insists that Honey pay for everything now that she is rich. Chaz and his friends enter the restaurant just in time to catch Honey's music video playing on television. Honey and friends are overjoyed. Meanwhile, the same video is playing inside the store where Benny and friends sell drugs. Benny and Raymond are thrilled to see Honey on television, especially when Benny recognizes one of his own moves utilized in her dance routine. The other drug dealers congratulate Benny. The next day, Benny and Raymond are on their way to the Centah when they run into Honey, who informs them that she is no longer teaching her class due to music video commitments. Benny insists he was only going to drop off Raymond anyway, and sends him off alone. Sad Honey walks away. |
| ANALYSIS |
Although Honey has experienced a meteoric rise to the top, she remains the good-hearted, generous woman we have come to know. Honey is so generous, in fact, that she treats Gina to dinner along with two complete strangers. While it is possible that these unidentified women sitting at the table are friends of Honey's, in fact we have never seen them before and never see them again, so this dinner clearly represents yet another random act of Honey's kindness to transients. On the other hand, evidence suggests that Honey is not in a position to be as generous as she appears; as she offers her friends, "Two of anything, on me!" an artistic shot through a fish tank conceals the possibility that Honey is pointing to a basket of complimentary bread instead of the menu. It would seem unlikely that Honey is offering to pay for two entrées each, as she freely admits in a few moments that she has not been paid for her work on the Jadakiss video. However, if it is being suggested that this dinner takes place either the night of or very soon after the Jadakiss video shoot, it seems incredible that the finished product is already being shown on television; even a minimal amount of post-production would take a few weeks, and in this time Honey has received no money for starring in and choreographing the entire video. Meanwhile, she is taking transients out to dinner and pledging to bankroll a weekend out of town for four people. Yet another postmodern departure from temporal continuity occurs when Gina's upcoming birthday is mentioned as her 25th, alerting the viewer that this scene might be a flashback to the early 70s, with Jessica Alba playing the role of Honey's mom. However, logical speculation regarding this issue is interrupted by Chaz's arrival and Gina's ensuing claim that Honey is "duckin'"; fortunately for viewers who may not be familiar with this term or how it relates to bobblehead dolls, Gina performs a grotesque impression of Honey that cracks up the entire table. When it comes to Honey's newly televised success, Benny experiences conflicting reactions; on the one hand, his happiness for her completely eclipses the fact that Honey totally stole his dance move and passed it off as her own. On the other hand, Benny's gruff exterior cannot mask the betrayal he feels at Honey's abandonment of the dance class he holds so dear; so dear, in fact, that showing up just to sneer at it was surely the highlight of his week. |
