| SUMMARY |
Laurel enters the Hedare building and almost falls over when she sees Drina's pictures going up in the lobby, replacing her own. George approaches Laurel and reminds her that she's old and unattractive, before alluding to an impending meeting with a scientist named "Slavicky." As George walks away, Laurel becomes obscured by two men carrying enormous prints of her own modeling photos; when the men pass, Laurel has disappeared. Elsewhere in the building, Tom Lone shows up to return Patience's wallet and ask her out for coffee. Afterward, Sally and a homosexual co-worker named Lance urge Patience to shave her legs and revisit a certain leather outfit in preparation for her date. Patience vows that she will never, ever wear that leather outfit under any circumstances. That night, Patience attempts to have a courier service deliver her design before midnight, but the service is closed. Patience decides to deliver the package herself. |
| ANALYSIS |
Despite the remarkable explicitness with which it conveys its narrative, Catwoman nevertheless remains confusing enough to suggest that the scenes are being played out of order. For example, despite having personally announced that she is stepping down as the face of Hedare, Laurel is so shocked to find her photos being replaced with Drina's that she almost topples over. Perhaps as a mark of restraint, the filmmakers opted against the accompanying looped dialogue, "What what WHAAAAT?" George's comment that Laurel has "put up quite a fight" against Father Time demonstrates not only that he is a sociopath, but also a pathological liar since Father Time has obviously had his way with her a hundred times over. On the other hand, George and Laurel's agreement that "Beau-line works wonders" undermines this entire portion of the film: having used Beau-line for only the short time it has been in existence, Laurel is already exhibiting visible results. It would seem this is the one campaign for which Laurel would be perfect, instead of advertising an age-reversing creme with a model who is already young. Upstairs, we discover that not only has Patience deemed it unnecessary to change her clothes from one day to the next, but the entire art department might as well have spent the night under their desks. At this point, these people are just dirty and we can't blame Patience anymore. We may, however, question Tom Lone's decision to track her down and show off his interweb skills:
Additionally, Lance and Sally are not off the hook for making overt sexual advances on Tom: Lance refers to Tom as a "man sandwich" despite the absence of bread slices on either side of him, while Sally lasciviously offers him BDSM pleasures, presenting her wrists and cooing, "You can throw away the key." (Really.) This clip leaves the viewer with several questions for future consideration, including:
